Public garden in baroque style with Art Nouveau buildings, south-east of the town centre. The central point is the neo-baroque Water Tower (1) from where Water Steps surrounded by floral arcades lead into the grand Basin (2). North of the square is the Congress Centre Rosengarten (3) (Rose Garden), south of it the Kunsthalle (4) (Art Gallery). In the south-east, the square is confined by the Art Nouveau Arcade Buildings (5).

The German architect Bruno Schmitz (1858-1916) designed garden, square and fountain between 1899 and 1903.

The horseshoe-shaped town centre was built since 1606 with streets arranged in a rectangular way like a grate; since 1811 until today, these streets have no names but letters and numbers.
